Escape to a simpler life with Llinos and Geraint

An original Feather Down and our first farm in Wales, Pant y March is in the southern part of Snowdonia National Park. You will be staying with Geraint and Llinos Jones, who bought the farm in 2007 - Llinos’s grandfather was born there more than a century ago. In keeping with the mountainous nature of the farm, they keep 200 ewes, a few cows, some chickens with everything being kept in place by the sheepdog. It is the most mountainous of all of our Feather Down’s with far reaching panoramic views across Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake), the largest natural lake in Wales. You can enjoy a Welsh language version if you scroll down.

Adventures in Snowdonia

Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) in Snowdonia, North Wales is second to none for water activities and a fantastic addition for your holiday. You can rent canoes, paddle boards, sailing and rowing boats at the foreshore in Bala, along with whitewater rafting at the Tryweryn centre. For early morning wild swims nothing beats the tranquil beach at Llangywer, one mile walk from the farm. For those who enjoy biking, the nine mile flat cycle track along the estuary from Dolgellau to Barmouth is a short drive away, as well as the world famous Coed y Brenin mountain biking centre. Hope in the car and head to Zip World in Llechwedd if you fancy a thrill or even head down to the caves in North Wales. If you leave the car for the duration of your holiday, there are endless walking paths in all directions from the farm, to the top of the mountain behind the farm or the 2 ½ miles to the village pub, with the icing on the cake being a narrow gauge railway journey back to Llangywer!

What to do at Pant y March

Due to its mountainous location and an absence of heavy machinery, the farm is a peaceful haven, where visitors young and old are encouraged to roam freely as befits a family holiday in Bala & Snowdonia. As the day draws to a close you can enjoy spectacular sunsets across the lake, viewed from your private hot tub (if you have booked a tent with one).

Magical place to stay. We absolutely loved the cabin, the farm, and the area. We felt warmly welcomed. Our 4 year old enjoyed the fires and the cupboard bed. The farm tour was a wonderful walk in the hills, overlooking the lake, and one of our favourite bits of the trip was listening to Llinos telling a folk tale during this walk. We stayed end of October, and the mornings where freezing, but the duvets kept us warm in the nights, and we got the fire going quickly after waking up. And the autumn colours are so beautiful. Highly recommend.

Stunning views, lovely hosts. Jess and Dovie the sheep dogs were almost smuggled home in the car and Barry the ram gave my teenagers a run for their money. The hot tub was a definite win with teens also.

Despite the rubbish weather we had a brilliant week. We were greeted and shown round on arrival and checked in on every day by the lovely hosts. The farm was well looked after and animals we met were all very friendly. The tent had everything we needed and beds were comfy and warm despite the 45mph winds! The kids socialised with other children and were building tree houses from day one which was great to watch. Our 14 year old collie loved her holiday too and the farm was well set up to bring your own dog.

Lovely location, with great views and very quiet. Only 4 tents, which was nice and added to the peaceful setting. Very friendly farmer. A little lacking in the extras such as no pizza night, no info folder in the tent, and a very limited honesty shop. Great location, and lots to do nearby. Would recommend.

Wonderful stay, Llinos could not have been more welcoming and was really helpful in terms of recommending places to eat and visit during our stay. Her sheep dogs are also lovely and so well trained! The view from the camp site onto Bala Lake is absolutely stunning. Beds and tent was beautifully made up when we arrived - the beds are really comfortable and we all slept so well. Great stock of wood in the shed and we loved the wood fired hot-tub, a real treat. Location of the site is also great, amazingly quiet and tranquil but in easy reach of Bala town and the lake for wild water swimming, train rides, shops, cafes and pubs. All in all we had a brilliant family holiday, would definitely recommend!

Absolute bliss, we a loved every second of our stay and can’t wait to go back. Pant Y March Farm is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous views over lake Bala and the surrounding mountains. The safari tent was amazing, we loved everything about it from the wood fired stove, to the paraffin lanterns, candles, super comfy bedding and beautiful wooden floors. Outside we had a fabulous hot tub with sunset views to die for, a wood fired BBQ, deckchairs and a fabulous hot outdoor bucket shower. The farmers/owners were so welcoming and we loved their little honesty shop and the visits from Jess the resident sheep dog. We can’t recommend this place highly enough and will definitely be back 😀

We adored our stay at Pant y March and Geraint and Llinos were fabulous hosts. Having no electricity and fueling the wood burning stove to keep warm really added to the experience. Our two boys aged 9 & 7 loved exploring the farm, getting mucky, collecting eggs from underneath chickens and playing with farm dogs while we all appreciated the wood fired hot tub after a day of walking up Yr Wyddfa.

A perfect escape from everyday life! We stayed with our grown up children and we all absolutely loved the tranquility and the view! My husband loved making fires for cooking, putting the kettle on and the wood fired hot tub! I loved sleeping in a comfy bed and breathing in fresh air! The kids loved lying in the hammock and star gazing at night. We swam in the lake, walked up Snowdonia, swam in waterfalls and loved the outside back to nature life! The Jones family were very welcoming and we will definitely return, highly recommended!

We had a very enjoyable stay at Pant y March and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The only downside was the fact that the family next door kept walking directly past our tent (even walking across our decking!!) but overall we had a pleasant stay and the owners were very hospitable and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We would love to return one day!

Meet your hosts

Llinos and Geraint

We are the Jones family, Geraint, Llinos and daughter Martha, and we purchased Pant y March in 2007. The family has had a long association with the place as Llinos’ grandfather was born here more than a century ago.

Pizza oven

Highlight

Pizza night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street

Farmer stood next to field pointing down a farm lane to a man and woman, with rolling hills, lake, trees and blue skies in distance

Highlight

Ask the farmer

The farm tour is a must if it’s on offer during your stay. But you don’t wait till then. The farmer will be delighted to tell you more about farm life at any time.

Honesty shop - room with fridge/freezer and shelves with tins, packets and local food available to buy

Highlight

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.
