Kathe and Simon

Foxglove Farm belongs to Simon and Kathe, both from farming backgrounds as far back as their grandparents on both sides. Simon first farmed the land at Foxglove as a teenager after completing agricultural college, later becoming a tenant farmer before purchasing the farm in the late 1990s. Foxglove is a traditional working farm with sheep, lambs, chickens, cattle, calves and pigs. The farm is situated next to Inkpen Common nature reserve, a site of special scientific interest.

There's more to West Berkshire than meets the eye

There’s so much going on in and around Foxglove Farm but at the same time, you’ll feel like you are very much buried away in quintessential English countryside. Your glamping style farm stay is just outside of Newbury in the village of Inkpen, which you’ll be plumb in the centre of, has the Crown and Garter, which will supply your every need - as well as a welcome pint and café stops.

Further afield there are walks, bike rides and boat trips along the nearby Kennet and Avon Canal. Marlborough and Hungerford, with its plethora of antique shops are a short drive away. For the most macabre of walks, you can stride up to Combe Gibbet which was the final gory resting place of George Broomham and Dorothy Newman after they were both hung there in 1676.

Here's some of our common Frequently Asked Questions

Can we bring our dog?

+

Most of our farms allow well-behaved dogs. A maximum of two dogs per accommodation is allowed, upon payment of a fee of £30 per dog per stay. Dogs must be kept on the lead at all times while on the farm and cannot be left behind in the accommodation. In the event that your dog causes damage to the accommodation or the farm and its livestock, you will be liable to bear the full costs. You can find a list of our dog-friendly farms on our farms page.

Do we have to bring our own food and drinks? Is there a shop on site?

+

At most of our farms, you can find an Honesty shop. As there are only about 5 to 10 tents at the farms, the selection in the farm shop is limited. The available selection will mostly consist out of basic necessities for breakfast and a simple warm meal. Other than that there will be juices, sodas, beer, and wine. Snacks and some sweets for the little ones can also be found in the shop. Some farm shops also offer ice cream during the summer. Other than that there are also the local products and handy items such as toothpaste, shampoo, etc.

Is there mobile phone signal at the farms?

+

Due to the rural locations of our farms, it may be that mobile signal could be a little patchy (all the more reason to switch off and enjoy re-connecting to nature)! However, in the event of an emergency, the farmer hosting you would be more than happy for you to use their landline to call for help as needed.

How do we keep our food cool and fresh?

+

In the accommodation, there is a cool chest. In this cool chest are cooling elements that will keep your food and drinks chilled. Once these cool elements run out you can swap them for new ones. In the farm shop or shed, there will be a cool box where you can swap the cool elements.

Is there running water in the canvas hideaway?

+

Yes. The accommodation has a kitchenette with cold running tap water. This is normal tap water and therefore also suitable as drinking water. Our toilets can be flushed like a normal toilet.

Is there electricity inside the canvas hideaway?

+

No. There is no electricity in the accommodation. Turn off your phone and put away your tablet as time with each other is key during a Feather Down holiday! At some locations, there is limited Wifi available. Usually not within the accommodations but close to the main house. Ask and discuss with your host on arrival.
