Escape to a simpler life with Anna and Will

If you live in London, what could be easier than the hour’s drive to discover Feather Down’s first farm? Will and Anna Brock hosted our first ever guests back in 2006 and most of the national press since then, the most recent being the Sun who wrote a feature on Manor Farm in 2021. Now joined by their children Daisy and Bertie, they farm cattle, sheep and arable crops in what must be one of the best spots for a family holiday in the South Downs National Park. Your capacious home will look out across the old farm orchard and the fields of wheat, barley, rapeseed and lavender grown in this bucolic corner of Hampshire.

Roam free on the South Downs

If you can’t bear to chill out a moment longer on the farm, there’s tons to do around and about. You are based in the South Downs National Park for this holiday but there is more than just natural beauty on offer here. For the book-ish, both young and old, Thomas the Tank Engine is a frequent visitor to the Watercress Line, whilst the houses of our first naturalist, Gilbert White and one of our foremost novelists, Jane Austen’s house, are a stone’s throw away in Selborne and Chawton respectively. The more active can range further afield to West Wittering, an hour away on the coast, or to Frensham for a dose of wild swimming. Or for a spot of shopping it is only a short drive to Winchester.

What to do at Manor Farm

If you are on the farm during the day, you can wake up without a plan and let your imagination run riot. Just hang out, hunt for wood in the hedgerow to build a campfire, make up a treasure hunt, enjoy one of Anna’s walks, explore the local area and play board games. You can also admire the beautiful flowers grown in the private garden of the local wedding florist. If you are lucky enough to have a hot tub (these ones are unique metal baths!), take the time to sit and soak. With individual pizza ovens next to each tent, you can enjoy a tasty meal whenever hunger strikes. And when night falls, Manor Farm is unique amongst Feather Downs as each hideaway has its own fire pit in front of your home from home. Hearty stews, toasted marshmallows, mega barbies and campfire songs await before retiring for dream-filled sleep in your comfy beds - where could be better for a family holiday in the South Downs?

Highlight

Pizza night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street.

Honesty shop with shelves of tins, cans, bottles and cupboards for storage

Highlight

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.
