Escape to a simpler life with Anna and Will

If you live in London, what could be easier than the hour’s drive to discover Feather Down’s first farm? Will and Anna Brock hosted our first ever guests back in 2006 and most of the national press since then, the most recent being the Sun who wrote a feature on Manor Farm in 2021. Now joined by their children Daisy and Bertie, they farm cattle, sheep and arable crops in what must be one of the best spots for a family holiday in the South Downs National Park. Your capacious home will look out across the old farm orchard and the fields of wheat, barley, rapeseed and lavender grown in this bucolic corner of Hampshire.

Roam free on the South Downs

If you can’t bear to chill out a moment longer on the farm, there’s tons to do around and about. You are based in the South Downs National Park for this holiday but there is more than just natural beauty on offer here. For the book-ish, both young and old, Thomas the Tank Engine is a frequent visitor to the Watercress Line, whilst the houses of our first naturalist, Gilbert White and one of our foremost novelists, Jane Austen’s house, are a stone’s throw away in Selborne and Chawton respectively. The more active can range further afield to West Wittering, an hour away on the coast, or to Frensham for a dose of wild swimming. Or for a spot of shopping it is only a short drive to Winchester.

What to do at Manor Farm

If you are on the farm during the day, you can wake up without a plan and let your imagination run riot. Just hang out, hunt for wood in the hedgerow to build a campfire, make up a treasure hunt, enjoy one of Anna’s walks, explore the local area and play board games. You can also admire the beautiful flowers grown in the private garden of the local wedding florist. If you are lucky enough to have a hot tub (these ones are unique metal baths!), take the time to sit and soak. With individual pizza ovens next to each tent, you can enjoy a tasty meal whenever hunger strikes. And when night falls, Manor Farm is unique amongst Feather Downs as each hideaway has its own fire pit in front of your home from home. Hearty stews, toasted marshmallows, mega barbies and campfire songs await before retiring for dream-filled sleep in your comfy beds - where could be better for a family holiday in the South Downs?

We had a wonderful time at Manor Farm. Our tent was just as we expected with everything we needed for the week. The outdoor shower was a lovely touch and our view over the surrounding fields stunning. We absolutely loved getting away from it all and relaxing as a family in such a beautiful location. We can't wait to go back!

Fantastic, being in nature, the excitement of camping, open fires, with all the essentials and mod cons: proper loo, lovely hot shower, extremely comfortable beds and sofas, and a nice cafe and well stocked honesty shop to boot. Great setting, quiet, peaceful. Highly recommend.

A wholesome and awesome weekend at Manor farm. We loved our lodges and the fact that our families had two of them that shared a private field. The setting was glorious. The lodges were well equipped, and comfortable. The cupboard bed was very popular and cosy. We loved that the stay was off grid. We used the hot tub and found the outdoor shower with hot water very convenient. We arrived on a Friday evening and had a lovely time with Fiona making our pizzas at the communal pizza oven. Fiona was a brilliant host. The farm has an honesty shop that was well stocked and items for the kids to borrow, like games as puzzles. Fiona even managed to set up a projector in the roastery barn during the Euro 2024 final for the guests. All 12 of us loved our stay and we would love to visit again and will definitely recommend to others.

Featherdown has everything to help You unwind. Beds are comfortable, duvets warm and tent waterproof! We had an amazing time despite the bad weather. You just have to slow down, switch off and relax. The fact there is no electricity makes you Talk to each other and play games. The grandchildren had so much freedom and loved the fact it was still a working farm with tractors and lambs. Honesty shop had all essentials and some Luxury food. Looked after very well by Fiona, campsite host and Anna and Will.

We are returning customers from 15 years ago to Manor Farm. It was good to see that the ethos of Featherdown is still to come and appreciate the simple life, no electricity everything fire powered and instantly makes you slow down and relax as even the kettle can take an hour to boil! There were some great new features like the private showers, BBQ, fire pits and hot tub of which we used extensively throughout the week. We were lucky to be taken on a tour by the Farmer Will and he talked about how the land is farmed and how they have to Diversify due to changing eating habits and needs. It is good to see where things come from to our plates, something we take for granted. We spent the week talking and reading something we are too busy in our ‘normal’ every day to do.

Our 6th Featherdown Farm stay and we have enjoyed each and every farm… we particularly loved the set up of Manor Farm as tents are set up in pairs with so much open space. The car park is very near which made life easy. A very lovely stay and despite not offering actual activities, this farm made for a really great relaxing stay. The loan of the pizza oven was great fun

Highlight

Pizza night

The farmer will usually fire up the pizza oven during your stay. Everyone gathers round to tell their stories of the day’s adventures and invent pizza toppings you’ll never find on the high street.

Honesty shop with shelves of tins, cans, bottles and cupboards for storage

Highlight

The farm shop

It’s great for the basics and usually even better for local produce and low food miles. And every Feather Down farm shop operates on an honesty basis.
