Feather Down
Options & pricesThree generations of Dunlops have farmed this spot on the Sussex coast for over a hundred years, currently with Romney ewes, cross-bred cows, calves and Eiger the Aberdeen Angus bull. Along with rearing and caring for the livestock, Andrew grows potatoes and keeps free-range chickens. Your cosy canvas hideaways nestle among a group of trees on a stretch of higher ground, the perfect vantage point to take in the stunning sea views all through a beautiful farm stay family holiday in the very best of Sussex.
The beach is only a 10-minute walk away from your tent, making this an ideal spot for a family holiday on the Sussex coast. Many of our guests linger so long there that they join the beach club and become regulars at the Red Pig food truck, in itself a five star attraction. On the way, you will cross meadows and marshland full of rare and endangered species, part of the Pett Level Preservation Trust.
Nearby are the old Saxon shoreline of Sussex and the royal Military Canal, dug to repel Napoleon 200 years ago. Further along the coast to the east are the dunes of Camber Sands and the other worldly beauty of the Dungeness peninsula, with the smallest passenger railway in the world and the largest shingle beach in Europe. Rye and Winchelsea are two ancient charming towns just a short drive away form the Sussex holiday spot. In the other direction, you soon get to Hastings, home to the UK’s largest beach-based fishing fleet and its characterful old town along with Hastings Country Park.
There’s always something to discover or explore at Lunsford whenever your holiday in Sussex might take place. Roaming the farm will uncover some of the beautiful original farm buildings as well as a possible water vole sighting at any of the several ponds. Admire the sea views or simply stroll around the farm and its meadows – the Royal Oak with its boules pitch is just a few minutes away. The farm’s salt-marsh lamb is a must, for your stove or for pizza night. You will also be tempted by the farm’s shower block with its under-floor heating – it’s one of the best
