Feather Down Farms has proved one of the most profitable avenues for farm diversification for almost 20 years. With our experience as a market leader in farm stays, we help agricultural entrepreneurs diversify with an attractive revenue model and generate a generous second income.

Feather Down holidays are a unique way of diversifying your farm's income. There is no electricity, and no Wi-Fi to encourage guests to reconnect to nature and each other while offering highly comfortable and spacious tents. There is limited investment required by our farmers and low risks. You do not need to have any experience in hospitality, just a willingness to share your farm and knowledge with our guests.

The Feather Down experience and product

Spending the night on a real farm, in a spacious and very comfortable canvas hideaway, without electricity and Wi-Fi, is a conscious choice by our guests. Returning to a slow-paced life, where nature surrounds you and time spent with each other is a priority. That is what makes the experience at Feather Down so strong. And we see that in our figures because over 43% of our guests return.

With an average of 7 canvas hideaways per farm, we offer a small-scale experience. We are not a campsite. Our guests come for the peace, quiet and the unique experience of our concept. The holiday experience we offer is unique as our guests learn what farm-to-fork means, especially children who discover more outside of a classroom on a working farm stay.

This is what the steps look like.

Step 1: Getting to know you

• We guide you through our presentation and would like to gain insight into your personal situation

• We organise a site visit to get to know your location and further explain our concept.

Step 2: Feasibility assessment

• Once we have decided to work together, we sign a 'cooperation intent'

• You start the permit application, Feather Down will provide you with the necessary information.

Step 3: Drafting the contract

+

After receiving your permit:

• We sign the contract

• We start with our digital marketing and receive bookings for the canvas hideaways on your farm

Step 4 : Installation of the canvas hideaways

+

• The operations team will arrive on site to determine the final location of the canvas hideaways and discuss the timing of installation

• You carry out the earthworks according to the implementation plans of Feather Down

• The operational team comes to install the canvas hideaways

• Feather Down will guide you on opening procedures

Feather Down Farms is an organisation consisting of a team of people with a lot of expertise in the tourism sector. We not only help with the development of the plan and the permit application but also support you through the full process. Our digital marketing team knows how to achieve an excellent occupancy rate like no other, with various routes to market and a strong website. We commit to working with you from the planning and design stages, through to the day you open your exciting new glamping site and everything in between.

Thanks to our knowledge, we have grown considerably in recent years, without losing our unique character. And because of the small scale, the Feather Down experience remains very personal. Many farms use this opportunity of diversification to involve other family members in the farm, perhaps as part of a generational farm plan.

Hear it from one of our Feather Down Farmers

The Harrold family has farmed Heydon Grove Farm in Norfolk since 1957. Rory was born there, and so were his son and daughter. As with many farms, they needed to look for a further independent income stream and explore different ideas for diversification. After seeing an advert online about diversifying with a farm stay glamping product, Rory got in touch with Feather Down Farms. Now in their 3rd season, Rory shares the highs and lows.
